Michael Kennedy McIntyre began his postsecondary education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a BA in history. He went on to attend the UNC Chapel Hill School of Law. Earning his JD in 1979, he passed the Georgia Bar and began his career serving the public interest as an attorney with the Federal Defender Program. Between 1980 and 1984, he worked as an assistant federal defender representing people accused of federal crimes who could not afford representation. Through this experience he learned that, while legal services were available to those accused of crimes, there were few services for those already convicted. Accordingly, in 1985, he founded Michael Kennedy McIntyre & Associates, a law firm dedicated to postconviction legal services. Serving as the firm’s lead counsel, Michael K. McIntyre has spent almost four decades helping clients navigate the consequences of their convictions. This includes regularly assisting clients along pathways to release such as parole hearings and sentence modification. Mr. McIntyre has experience filing petitions to remove convicted sex offenders from the Georgia Sex Offender Registry.
