The sentence range for murder in the second degree in Georgia is 10 to 30 years. Prior to June 2021, the Georgia Parole Board decided that the offense of murder in the second degree was not eligible for parole under SB 441. As of June 2021, the Georgia Parole Board has now amended their guidelines so that murder in the second degree is parole eligible and is considered as a crime severity level VIII. Offenders convicted of murder in the second degree will be considered for parole after serving one-third of their sentence.
